Minister Akdağ also shared his views about use of antibiotics:
“The usage rate of antibiotics is around 15% in Europe but 30% in Turkey. We are conducting a brief training course for all family physicians and pediatricians at present. We will complete the training in a week. This is entirely practical training. The focus is upper respiratory infections, that is, common cold, flu and others. We will then launch a media campaign in a few weeks to sensitize citizens on avoiding unnecessary use of antibiotics especially in upper respiratory infections. People should not press their physicians to prescribe antibiotics. We are trying to change behaviors with an awareness raising campaign. We have already made good progress about it this year.
